The Alliance for Early Childhood

1235 Oak Street Winnetka, 60093

The Alliance for Early Childhood is a community collaboration organization based on the North Shore of Chicago. Its mission is to promote the healthy growth and development of children from birth to age eight (or 3rd grade) by providing support and services for the parents and teachers who care for and teach them. The Alliance is unique by bringing together the entire early childhood community under one umbrella. Member organizations include all public, private, parochial, and preschools in Winnetka, Northfield, and Kenilworth, as well as organizations with an interest in young children, like the libraries, park districts, children’s museums and mental health organizations. The Alliance also has 12 associate member schools and organizations located in Wilmette, Glencoe, and Highland Park. Each year, member schools, organizations, and individuals receive services and programs, such as:

–Two issues of “Early Childhood,” a 16-page newsletter containing articles written by local and national experts, book reviews, practical parenting ideas, health information, and calendar of events.

–Invitations for teachers and administrators to attend an annual Networking Dinner featuring an internationally renowned keynote speaker.

–Additional occasions for educators across the Township to connect, such as through a Fall Networking Breakfast and monthly directors’ meetings.

–Announcements for teachers and administrators to attend a series of free professional development opportunities with nationally recognized early childhood leaders and CPDU credit.

–Opportunities for parents, grandparents, and caregivers to attend presentations led by nationally renowned educators addressing a variety of themes, including our Special Needs, Twins and Multiples, and Let’s Play initiatives.

–Materials for all families to participate in the annual ScreenBreak week, including access to a wide-range of free activities throughout the community.

–Community events allowing children and their adults to jointly engage in child-initiated free play through our Park-A-Day Challenge, Pop-Up Adventure Play event, and Tuesdays in the Woods: Let’s Play in Nature! program.

–Teacher Tributes, which allow parents, colleagues, and schools to recognize outstanding educators.
