Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.
Eversight Illinois’ Connecting through Correspondence Program is the ultimate expression of our mission’s commitment to the healing power of donation and transplantation. Nothing is more healing for our donor families and recipients than having the opportunity to communicate with the people to whom they are forever connected through donation. Donor family members find great comfort in the fact that their loved ones live through others, and recipients are able to release any guilt they feel in knowing they benefited when another person passed away. The gifts of donation and transplantation last a lifetime, and the Connecting through Correspondence Program allows those we serve to share in these gifts through written expressions of joy, hope and gratitude. This program’s connection to our mission is best illustrated by the letters from donor families and recipients themselves: “My brother had a very positive way of seeing things. It gives me comfort to know that you are able to share a little bit of my beloved brother, and that he has helped someone else see in only the way he could.” – Grace, donor sister. “I write this with mixed emotions; joy in the successful restoration of my sight, and sadness that my gain was at the expense of another’s loss. Each day I am thankful for the kindness individuals show to each other. Your willingness to continue life through donation is truly appreciated. May you take comfort in knowing that life does go on.” –Virginia, cornea recipient.
