Flashes of Hope

Flashes of Hope

Flashes of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The portraits, taken by award winning photographers, help children feel better about their changing appearance by celebrating it. For families of terminally ill children, it’s especially important to have a portrait that preserves forever the beauty, grace and dignity of their child. Each month, volunteers transform a space in the hospital into a professional photography studio. For a few moments, it won’t seem like a hospital. Children who haven’t wanted to get out of bed will suddenly be laughing and smiling. And, nurses will take a break from administering medicines to join in the fun. Talented make-up artists will help the children and their moms look and feel their best. Then each child will be photographed individually and with their closest supporter-siblings, parents, and often a favorite nurse. Professional photographers donate their time to capture the spirit of each child with a beautiful portrait that provides a lasting positive memory for family and friends during a difficult time. A Flashes of Hope portrait is much more than a picture on the wall; it’s an indescribable treasure. Flashes of Hope’s mission is to photograph every child with cancer until every child is cured. This year alone we will photograph half of all children in the US diagnosed with cancer.
