Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.

At JourneyCare, our mission is to enrich lives through expert and compassionate care. At the very heart of our mission is our commitment to helping patients to live life as fully as possible, without pain, and enhancing the quality of life for patients and their loved ones. All About Kids reflects this vision, providing specialized hospice and palliative care services that address both the physical and emotional needs of chronic or seriously ill children and their loved ones. Further, All About Kids reflects our commitment to caring for all who need our services, regardless of their ability to pay. One of the greatest challenges our pediatric families face is the financial burden of care. Many families, when faced with the difficult news that their child is seriously ill, opt for palliative care, as they feel they are “giving up” by choosing hospice care. Despite increasing evidence that palliative care improves outcomes of medically-complex children, Medicare and insurance providers do not cover many of the costs associated with this type of care. (JourneyCare is one of only a few programs in the entire state to offer pediatric palliative care since many hospices opt to forgo this care due to lack of reimbursement.) As a result, a large portion of our pediatric patient families require charity care to afford care. Last year, JourneyCare provided more than $1 million in charity care to pediatric families who were uninsured and unable to pay for their care.
