Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.

UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories to put children first, helping save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization, by providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. At its core, UNICEF is working toward the day when no children die from preventable causes and every child has a safe and healthy childhood. More than 65 years ago, the original Kids-helping-Kids campaign was born, with Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. It inspired a generation of kids to become global citizens and support their peers around the world. UNICEF Kid Power taps into kids’ innate desire to help their peers, utilizing new technology for a new generation of global citizens. We know that 1 in 4 children in the U.S. is inactive, while 1 in 4 children globally is malnourished. UNICEF Kid Power aims to solve both challenges by getting kids to be part of the solution to end global malnutrition. With every step they take, they’re not only fulfilling the kids-helping-kids mission that Trick-or-Treat started, they’re supporting UNICEF’s mission in a real way. Currently, primarily due to funding gaps, UNICEF is able to reach less than 20 percent of the severely malnourished children who need lifesaving Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food packets. UNICEF Kid Power’s goal is to immediately address this gap.
