CJE SeniorLife’s (CJE) mission is to facilitate the independence of older adults and enhance quality of life by offering life enrichment, supportive resources, healthcare and research and education.

Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.

The Consumer Assistance (CA) program, which has no client residence boundaries or income eligibility requirements, aligns directly with our mission. The program helps older adults better manage their daily finances, maximize personal assets, withstand unexpected emergencies and potentially avoid financial collapse. CA helps empower clients to maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life. Among CA clients are seniors searching for ways to make ends meet on meager incomes who find themselves forced to choose between paying utility bills or getting needed dental treatment. Some clients are grappling with financial challenges related to the death of a spouse or caring for a disabled child. Others, who were financially secure, have been hit with a sudden unanticipated expense that puts them in financial peril. CA serves many immigrants, including families who came as refugees from the former Soviet Union. Service is available in English and Russian. Newer waves of immigrants include those from the Middle East, who may be facing multiple types of discrimination. When trying to access government benefits, many immigrants need professional advocacy assistance to overcome barriers including language competency and residency requirements. By connecting older adults to public benefits and other resources, the CA program helps clients live independently with dignity.
