Juvenile Justice Initiative

518 Davis, Suite 211 Evanston, 60201

The Juvenile Justice Initiative is dedicated to reduce violence in our state through advocacy to promote and implement community-based alternatives to incarceration, and to ensure fairness in our justice system for all of our children. In existence since 2000, the Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI) advocacy has successfully raised the age to bring 17 year olds back into the juvenile court, and has shifted limited state funding from incarceration to more successful and less costly community based alternatives across the state. As a result of JJI advocacy, thousands of youth across the state are now receiving local services and sanctions through the juvenile, rather than adult, court, enabling them to move onto college and careers without a past of incarceration or an adult criminal conviction.
