ART & AGENCY: Exploring the African American Quilting Tradition

Explore the transfer and evolution of quilting techniques and traditions that may have occurred during the trans-Atlantic slave experience and how, even today, the social, political and economic agency of Black people is defined and actualized through quilts and quilt making. This international conversation includes scholars, journalists, quilt artists, and art activists from the United States, Liberia and Ghana.

Companion quilt exhibitions are being hosted by collaborating institutions including, Navy Pier June10-July 31 and The DuSable Museum of African American History June 17-19. Visit: www.AIHUSA.org for more information.
