Art Design Chicago Presents Celebrating South Side Stories

Celebrating South Side Stories is a daylong series of events for all ages that highlights the Art Design Chicago exhibitions and projects on the South Side of Chicago and shining a spotlight on the important South Side institutions and creatives who have contributed to Chicago’s vibrant art and design scene, past and present. Participants will experience this rich history through a variety of activities, including all-ages art-making workshops and other artist-led projects, live performances, and film screenings.
The Sept. 15 events will be hosted at eight South Side institutions, including the DuSable Museum of African American History (740 E. 56th Place), Hyde Park Art Center (5020 S. Cornell Ave.), Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago (5550 S. Greenwood Ave.), and the South Side Community Art Center (3831 S. Michigan Ave.). Festivities kick off at 11 a.m. at the DuSable Museum of African American History with a speaking program and light breakfast. The day of events will conclude at the DuSable Museum’s Roundhouse with a free concert performance by Columbia College Jazz Ensemble featuring renowned jazz musician and vocalist Maggie Brown.
Free trolley transportation between venues will be provided from noon to 6 p.m.
