GASTRO-INTESTINAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION TO HOST A VIRTUAL BALL SATURDAY, JULY 25, 2020 AT 6:00 PM
July 25, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation (GIRF) is transforming its 59th annual in-person ball into an online fundraiser on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. The virtual ball will offer GIRF supporters an unforgettable experience featuring a live improv performance by The Second City, an online paddle raise, and a special presentation by Dr. David T. Rubin, Lead Scientific Advisor for the GI Research Foundation.
Since 1961, GIRF’s community of patients, families, friends and medical professionals has gathered in upwards of 600 attendees for the annual GI Research Foundation Ball, their signature fundraising event.
“Despite these extraordinary circumstances, we’ve been able to pivot quickly and creatively to present a virtual ball which enables us to come together as a community,” said Katie Chudnovsky, Board President of GIRF. “While we cannot celebrate in-person the incredible advances being made at the Digestive Diseases Center at University of Chicago Medicine, our virtual event will bring our supporters together for a magical summer evening. Our goal of supporting medical research has never been more important.”
GI Research Foundation’s Virtual Ball will feature an interactive improv show by Chicago’s own, The Second City. Emceeing the evening is Emmy award-winning investigative reporter and long-time GIRF supporter, Ben Bradley, of WGN Chicago.
In addition to an evening of live entertainment, GIRF will also unveil an inspirational video highlighting a grateful University of Chicago Medicine patient as she recounts her journey seeking treatment for a debilitating digestive disease. Dr. David T. Rubin, Lead Scientific Advisor for the GI Research Foundation, will speak about this year’s ground-breaking research and future goals.
