Independent Bookstore Day at The Book Stall

April 30

Free

Stop by The Book Stall on Saturday, April 30th to celebrate Independent Book Store Day, a national effort to recognize the importance of independent bookstores across the country. Each bookstore will have their own ways of marking the day, and here at the Book Stall we’ll have some wonderful events:

– Raffles for Gift Cards to The Book Stall!
– Jessica Vitalis, author of The Wolf’s Curse will be signing books in the store from 10am to noon. This is not sit-down event, but rather a chance to visit with an author! We recommend this book for ages 9 – 12!
– Balloon Artist from 11:00am to Noon
– Stop by and meet Alice B. McGinty, author of Bathe the Cat, from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm. Alice would be happy to chat and sign copies of her hilarious new picture book! Recommended for ages 3 to 6.
– Sip and shop from 4:00pm to 5:00pm featuring libations from Good Grapes! Our toast to our amazing community!

And for the true booklover, there’s a city wide celebration all across our city! As manager Mike Wysock says “The Book Stall is thrilled to be a destination for the #ChiLoveBooks Challenge. Welcoming booklovers into our store is something we look forward to daily. On Independent Bookstore Day, though, we get to share our joy with the wider Chicagoland community, and it warms our hearts to get to host as many indie bookstore lovers as possible!”

Indie Bookstore Crawl,
called the #ChiLoveBooks Challenge

Nearly 40 independent bookstores in the greater Chicago area—from Lake Forest to Homewood, and Wheaten to the Loop—are collaborating on this year’s #ChiLoveBooks Challenge, which encourages book lovers to indulge in bookstore tourism by visiting 10, 15, or more(!!) stores in a single day.

How will it work? When readers arrive at their first bookstore of the day, they will scan a QR code or visit the website chilovebooks.com to view a landing page with instructions and a Google map containing information about all the participating stores (including addresses and directions). And then they’re on their way—taking selfies, scanning the QR codes, and tagging their images to #ChiLoveBooks all along the way.

The payoff comes for visits at the following levels:
• Visit TEN stores in one day and get 10% off at all bookstores listed below for an ENTIRE YEAR!
• Visit FIFTEEN stores in one day and get 15% off at all bookstores listed below for an ENTIRE YEAR!
The #ChiLoveBooks Challenge is being sponsored by the Chicagoland Independent Bookstore Alliance (ChIBA), an association formed in 2016 to raise awareness about the vitality of the area’s indie bookstores, and the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association (GLIBA).
