Irreplaceable: The Fight to Save Our Wild Places-An Earth Day Lunchbreak Event with Author Julian Hoffman

April 22 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Spend your Earth Day Lunchbreak learning how we can protect and restore fragile wild places on our planet. On Friday, April 22nd at 12 noon, The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) is delighted to partner with Go Green Reads to welcome author Julian Hoffman. He’ll discussing his new book, Irreplaceable: The Fight to Save Our Wild Places with bookseller Jon Grand. This virtual program is free; click here to register.

About the Book: Across the world, irreplaceable habitats are under threat. Wetlands to prairies and rainforests to coral reefs are being destroyed by human actions. And with their loss, countless wild species disappear from the planet. These losses impact deeply on human well-being, threatening the ecosystems and biological processes that we rely on to flourish and thrive. In Irreplaceable: The Fight to Save Our Wild Places, author Julian Hoffman shows us that just as the destruction of wild places is the result of unsustainable human practices, the protection and restoration of these vital places can be the work of human communities as well. Hoffman reminds us not only of how fundamentally connected we are to the natural world, but of how powerfully and positively transformative our actions can be.
About the Author: Julian Hoffman is the author of The Small Heart of Things: Being at Home in a Beckoning World, which won the 2012 AWP Award Series for Creative Nonfiction and the National Outdoor Book Award for Natural History Literature. He was also the winner of the Terrain.org Nonfiction Prize and has written for EarthLines, Kyoto Journal, Beloit Fiction Journal, Briar Cliff Review, Flyway, Redwood Coast Review, Silk Road Review, and Southern Humanities Review. He lives in northwestern Greece.
Conversation Partner Jon Grand is a frequent interviewer at Book Stall events. The store depends on his wide-ranging interests and expertise in history, sociology, and natural science.
