Make-A-Wish Illinois Walk for Wishes
For children with critical illnesses, wish experiences can be life-changing, impacting both their emotional and physical health. Chicago residents can now support these experiences through Make-A-Wish Illinois at Walk for Wishes in two area locations in September: on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Montrose Harbor and on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Busse Woods.
Registration for teams and individuals is open now at illinois.wish.org/walk and limited sponsorships are still available. Attendees will enjoy a festival-like atmosphere during an extraordinary morning to bring hope and resilience to wish kids and their families.
“Walk for Wishes is a way the community can come together to support local children with critical illnesses,” said Stephanie Springs, Chief Executive Officer for Make-A-Wish Illinois. “The power of a wish is strong and we see many alumni families come back to celebrate at Walk for Wishes, helping to support future wishes. There is no better feeling than seeing it all come full circle.”
Walk for Wishes is a family-friendly event powered by wish families, volunteers, companies, donors and friends. In the spirit of Make-A-Wish, where anything is possible, participants are encouraged to wear costumes. The morning includes children’s activities, refreshments, music, and costumed characters.
Recent research indicates that a wish experience can be an important part of a child’s treatment plan. These life-changing wishes replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope — helping children battling critical illnesses see the impossible as possible.
