Fresh: The Alcove

fresh-the-alcove-newAt 400 square feet, it may be the smallest bar in Chicagoland, but that’s just how proprietor Scott Bradley of Evanston likes it.

“It’s a place for adults to get a cocktail and a bite,” he says. “It’s less about ‘the thing’ and more about the time you spend here.”

With just 12 seats, it’s intimate and charming, along the lines of a cool local spot in Brooklyn or even Paris. You won’t get bogged down with choices – just 4 wines, 1 beer on tap, and a full bar of classic cocktails without the frills; paninis, a salad, and maybe a hot dish or two to choose from. “There are plenty of choices in your everyday life. This is a respite,” Bradley says. And that, it turns out, is the perfect recipe for this neighborhood favorite.
