Check Out These Stunning Before-and-After Make It Better Reader Home Renovations

Renovations from Make It Better readers

We asked you to show us your renos — and boy did you deliver. The winner? Chicago-based interior designer Claire Staszak, who, along with her husband, Luke, transformed an outdated, dysfunctional vintage kitchen into a gourmet’s dream. Even more impressive, the mostly DIY job took the couple just eight weeks to complete.

BEFORE: Linoleum floors, outdated appliances, lackluster cabinets and sagging countertops — not exactly a designer’s dream.

AFTER: Both beautiful and functional, the renovated space features a classic black and white palette warmed up with touches of brass and rich wood.

From Martha Kinzel:

“Talk about a dramatic change in my kitchen! The old was small, ugly and out of date. The new is large bright and wonderful! The kitchen design and cabinets were by DDK, the architect for the project was Healy Rice, and Elmshire Builders did the work. This ‘make over’ has changed the way we live in our home.”

From Julie Jacobson:

“I am pretty proud to submit these renovation photos because it was a total Family DIY project! My husband, father and brother-in-law worked so hard on this renovation!”

From Karen Kravits of Karen Kravits Design:

Before, the master bath was outdated, dark and dreary. Not an inspirational beginning to the day. Now, with all new materials, the bath is light and bright. The perfect spot to start and end each day.
