January: Time for a Plan

Now is the ideal time to sit down with a cup of tea, your seed and plant catalogs and that new journal (devoted to gardening notes) to jot down your 2011 gardening goals.

Once you’ve identified your desired results, even an informal plan will help you achieve your vision and save money.   Where to start?

Review last year’s results –what worked well? What didn’t?  Any overgrown or problem areas?

Did your spaces flow well?  Is there space for eating, relaxing and playing in the garden?  Do you wish you had a path from one area to another?
Would you like to add a raised-bed vegetable garden, an herb garden or a new perennial bed this year?  What do you like to eat, what are your favorite colors?

Are you hosting an event (graduation, July 4th, wedding or anniversary party) and want your garden at its peak during those days?
