The Gardener’s Year: A Warm November

This sunny week in November is an ideal time to enjoy cleaning up your property for the winter, leaving plants with seeds and winter interest standing.

With this fresh view, you can plan your holiday decorations and have them ready for the end of the month.  In the garden, a few action items:

  • Cut back asparagus, rhubarb and peony plants.
  • Plant shrubs (they are on sale!) and spring-blooming bulbs.
  • Mulch new plantings to prevent heaving and winter damage to roots.
  • Continue to water new plantings,
  • Roll up and store the majority of hoses and sprinklers.
  • Keep filling your birdfeeders and birdbaths!
  • Consider adding a heater to stone baths for the winter birds.
