But little darlin’ here comes the spring!
The winter may finally be behind us, and to rejuvenate your spring spirit, we have five races/runs that will make you feel good about getting active while giving back. So lace up those running shoes, start stretching and get online now to register for one (or more!) of these fun local races.
1. Bunny Rock 5K Run/Walk and Egg Hunt

When: Saturday, April 4 at 9 a.m.
Where: Grant Park
On Easter eve, this is the perfect event for families with young children. Besides the 5k race, there will be an egg hunt for children ages 2-8 (with over 3,000 candy-filled eggs!) a petting zoo and photo ops with the Easter Bunny. Don’t worry, there are fun treats for the adults too: every participant will receive a pair of neon shades, a dri-fit shirt and bunny ears.

Children’s Egg Hunt, $15
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Red Door Animal Shelter, a no-kill animal shelter that focuses on the rescue of cats, rabbits and dogs. Their mission is to promote respect for all animals through education, shelter, rehabilitation and adoption.

2. Be the Match Walk/Run Chicago

When: Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m.
Where: Montrose Harbor – Grove 16
This event is a family-friendly fundraising event featuring a 5K, 1K and Tot Trot. All proceeds go toward Be The Match, an organization that has helped facilitate over 68,000 marrow and cord blood transplants since 1987. Marrow and cord blood transplants are crucial for patients with blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. Over 70 percent of blood cancer patients do not have a donor in their family and must depend on the Be The Match Registry to help them find a donor match.

3. 10th Annual Race to Wrigley

When: Saturday, April 25 at 8 a.m.
Where: Wrigley Field
What better way to get a good look at the new construction on our “Friendly Confines” than running around it! Proceeds from the Race to Wrigley will benefit Cubs Charities, which helps Chicago’s underprivileged youth in the areas of health, fitness and education.
All proceeds from personal fundraising will be donated to support the critical care needs of pediatric cancer patients at Ann and Robert. H. Lurie Children’s Hospital

4. Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure
When: Mother’s Day, May 10 at 8 a.m.
Where: Butler Field, Chicago
Start your Mother’s Day right with an empowering walk/run through the city of Chicago to support the 1 in 8 women in the U.S. who will battle breast cancer in her lifetime. Sign up yourself and your mother, or get the whole family on board and start a team. Proceeds from the walk go toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which helps support local, community-based education, screening and treatment programs.

5. Move for the Kids 5K/Walk

When: Saturday, May 17 at 9 a.m.
Where: Soldier Field
Bring your children out to Soldier Field and show your support for the 174,000 patients cared for each year at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Over the past ten years, this race has helped raise over $2.5 million, which the hospital has used to support the building of a new state-of-the-art hospital, advancements in research and recruitment of top doctors.
