Amazing Seniors: Peter R. Sawers

For the past nineteen years, Peter R. Sawers has given more than 9,000 hours of service to the Executive Service Corps of Chicago (ESC), which provides capacity-building services to non-profits and public agencies through a corps of volunteer consultants who are retired business and civic leaders.

The decision to volunteer with ESC was a simple one, says Sawers, given his career experience as vice president of management consulting firm Towers Perrin.

“It was easy to do because it was natural,” he says. “I just wanted to help an organization that needed it. I know a lot of people have given back, and this is my way of doing it.”

Since joining ESC in 1991, Sawers has contributed to every part of the organization and worked as a facilitator, consultant and mentor on more than 60 projects for nonprofits. In addition to lending his managerial expertise, he has trained his colleagues in strategic planning, directed marketing initiatives, and led fundraising campaigns. Sawers served on ESC’s board of directors, and was made a Life Director in honor of his many years of service.
