On August 30, 2020, Officer Marseilla Collins, the 2021 Law Enforcement Hero recipient, had been on the job with the Chicago Police Department for only seven days when she responded to a shooting of several individuals in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood. Upon arrival, Officer Collins jumped into action and provided care to several individuals until paramedics arrived. The calmness, quick-thinking and professionalism that the rookie officer exhibited during the situation, combined with her protection of the crime scene and evidence, impressed her Field Training Officer and other responding officers.
This Women’s History Month we celebrate the women like officer Collins, who contribute to their communities through service. The American Red Cross of Illinois celebrates the everyday heroes in our communities and honors their acts of great bravery, dedication, and service through their annual Heroes Breakfast event. The event also serves as a way for the organization to highlight partnerships with corporations like the Motorola Solutions Foundation that make the lifesaving mission possible. As the sponsor of the 2021 Law Enforcement Award, the Motorola Solutions Foundation makes it possible for the Red Cross to be prepared to respond to more than 60,000 disasters nationwide
Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown Honored with Red Cross Heritage Award
In addition to recognizing an exemplary Class of Heroes, the Red Cross of Illinois presents the prestigious Heritage Award annually as part of its Heroes Breakfast event. Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions, was honored with the 2021 Heritage Award in acknowledgement of his demonstration of long-term commitment to the improvement of the lives of others through actions, deeds, and philanthropic works in the corporate and civic communities. It is Greg’s firm belief that corporations can help shape and improve the world around them and create a better, stronger society for all. This starts with preparing the next generation of leaders and ensuring that they are as diverse as the people they represent. Greg has long been committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and believes that these values encourage innovation and unique ways of thinking. Greg thanked the 18,000-plus Motorola Solutions employees across the globe while accepting the award, saying, “Making a difference in the communities where we live and work is part of our company’s DNA, and I’m inspired by our employees across the globe who make this part of their personal mission.”
The Motorola Solutions Foundation has been partnering with the Red Cross for over 20 years in furtherance of their purpose to create safer cities and equitable, thriving communities. Their partnership spans from grants and sponsorships to volunteerism – on initiatives including the Heroes Breakfast, Sound the Alarm, Home Fire Campaigns, Missing Maps, safety preparedness initiatives, and various disaster relief efforts across the globe.
Motorola Solutions’ customers are everyday heroes: the law enforcement personnel, firefighters, EMTs, healthcare professionals and veterans who put themselves on the front lines each and every day – selflessly serving our communities. As the charitable and philanthropic arm of Motorola Solutions, the Motorola Solutions Foundation is dedicated to paying it forward in support of this group of brave men and women. That’s one of the many reasons they are so proud to sponsor the Red Cross Heroes Breakfast, in which we recognize the heroic efforts of everyday citizens – but also our first responders.
