Starting with an iron foundry in Sheboygan, Wis., John Michael Kohler founded Kohler Co. in 1873.
He began a legacy of community enrichment, which was followed by his son, Walter Kohler, who not only served as President of the company, but also as Governor of Wisconsin. His motto was the words of John Ruskin, “Life without labor is guilt. Labor without art is brutality.”
Kohler continues to enrich the Sheboygan area, which is home to the corporate headquarters as well as The American Club Resort. The privately-held company refuses to give amounts for its donations, but confirms its commitment to Homes For Our Troops, which builds homes for severely injured service members who need homes specially adapted for their use.
“Partnering with Homes For Our Troops provides Kohler with an opportunity to express our gratitude to our country’s service men and women and their families,” says Todd Weber, Kohler’s communications director of product publicity. “Kohler is about providing gracious living for those who are touched by our products and services, which aligns with these homes custom-built to accommodate the needs of veterans.”
Kohler is donating 6,156 products, which includes sinks, faucets and toilets. These products will be placed in 108 homes that will be built over the next three years.
