Quick and Easy: Combatting Global Hunger

More than one billion people around the world don’t have enough to eat.

Kids Against Hunger is dedicated to combatting starvation in developing countries and the United States.

Since it was incorporated in 1999, Kids Against Hunger has provided over 200 million nutritious, pre-packed meals to children and their families in more than 60 countries. They have developed a specific dry blend of rice, vegetables, soy and vitamin powder designed to provide a days worth of nutrition for six children. The food is packaged in bags that are specifically designed to protect it from moisture and rodents, giving it a shelf life of at least three years.

On Saturday April 14th Kids Against Hunger – Fox Valley is working with The Rotary Club of Winnetka-Northfield, the Winnetka Community House, The Volunteer Center, RightStart4Kids and other local groups to pack 100,000 healthy meals that will be sent to Nicaragua and local food pantries.

There will be 12 tables of 11 volunteers working 2-hour shifts at the event, which is taking place at The Winnetka Community House. Each participant must pay a $20 fee, to help with the costs of materials, food and transportation. Registration is currently open, so grab a group of friends and donate 2 hours of your time to helping hungry kids!
