Local Artist Raises Environmental Awareness in Wake of Oil Spill

Evanston artist Jane Fulton Alt makes a powerful statement with her latest photo essay, “Crude Awakening.”

The series of photos offers viewers the ability to imagine an oil spill impacting the shores of Lake Michigan. Shot locally, Jane used a nontoxic substance to recreate the oily effect, and found herself with a number of volunteers willing to be photographed. Jane’s website includes a short essay on the subject.

If you’d like to help with the Gulf cleanup, you can read about the North Shore Senior Center’s efforts to collect supplies. They are still taking donations.
