Nicor Gas Sponsors the 2021 Red Cross Disaster Services Hero Award

With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, there’s no better time to commend those that contribute to their communities and America through service. The American Red Cross of Illinois celebrates the everyday heroes in our communities and honors their acts of great bravery, dedication, and service through their annual Heroes Breakfast event. The event also serves as a way for the organization to highlight partnerships with corporations like Nicor Gas that make the lifesaving mission possible.

As the sponsor of the 2021 Disaster Services Hero Award, Nicor Gas makes it possible for the Red Cross to be prepared to respond to more than 60,000 disasters nationwide. Nicor Gas and the American Red Cross have a partnership born of a common purpose – making a positive impact on communities. Nicor Gas believes that part of their corporate responsibility is to give back to their communities and they do that through corporate giving, employee giving, volunteerism, and partnerships with organizations like the American Red Cross. As a natural gas distribution company, many of Nicor Gas team members are first responders. They know how critically important disaster relief work is for our communities, and they are proud to demonstrate that support by sponsoring the Disaster Relief Hero.

Chef Q. Ibraheem of Evanston, the 2021 Disaster Services Hero Award recipient, has put her culinary passion to the service of those struggling to put food on the table. As the pandemic caused many people to lose their jobs, she started a free food delivery service to prepare farm-to-table meals and deliver them to local families.  She now runs two kitchens and has hired workers such as laid-off school bus drivers to deliver food to the families. So far, she has provided more than 20,000 meals to families, which equates to 160-204 meals per day.
