The organization: Founded in 1922 as the Lake Forest Sports Shop by Chicago socialite Margaret Baxter Foster, The Lake Forest Shop has become one of the North Shore’s leading women’s specialty stores. Now in the hands of granddaughter Ellen Stirling, the store is a premiere destination for cocktail, business casual or gala couture. Stirling, whose famous sartorial relatives include the late American magazine publisher Condé Nast and Nancy Talbot, co-founder of the eponymous retail clothing chain, reinvigorated the family shop and created a more sophisticated brand.

Fashion designer Bill Blass cited The Lake Forest Shop as one of the key reasons North Shore women remain among the best-dressed in the county. And with fashion consultants, on-site alterations, trunk shows and special orders available, The Lake Forest Shop is tailor-made for the fashionable North Shore woman.
