Catholic Charities of Lake County’s 2nd Annual Culinary Classic

With the chaos of our daily schedules, nutrition can take a hit as we opt for the fastest—and usually least healthy—foods.

As we grow older, bad habits add up and have consequences for our health. For seniors, good nutrition is one thing that can’t be sacrificed.

Meals on Wheels Lake County aims to decrease levels of nutritional risk for homebound seniors. Seniors eligible for Meals on Wheels services are 60+ years of age and are determined homebound by a governmental comprehensive case management evaluation. Meals on Wheels enables homebound seniors to stay in their homes by delivering hot, nutritious meals daily. Delivery from a volunteer also ensures wellness checks and social interaction for seniors who may otherwise be isolated and lonely.

During the 2012 Fiscal Year, Catholic Charities of Lake County has delivered 122,439 meals to 750 homebound seniors with an average age of 85+ through the Meals on Wheels program. On Sat., Aug. 25, Catholic Charities of Lake County is hosting its 2nd Annual Culinary Classic to raise money and expand its services for the Meals on Wheels program. The Black Tie optional event will be hosted at Hawthorn Woods Country Club, Hawthorn Woods.

Beginning at 6:30 pm, guests will enjoy a cocktail reception and dinner as well as both a silent and live auction. Among other items, the grand raffle is a trip for two for an ultimate Napa Valley culinary experience with airfare and a three-night stay at the Meritage Resort and Spa. The event, co-chaired by Beth McElroy, Jim Thompson and Becky Vallorano, features Garry Meier from WGN Radio as host and the Harp Twins for musical entertainment.
