Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.

The Chicago Fire Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life throughout Chicagoland by leveraging its resources and expertise in soccer to provide sports-based youth development and direct-service programs to underserved communities. Soon after it was established, the Foundation recognized two major issues in its surrounding neighborhoods; a gap in after school programming, especially in early childhood education, and alarming dropout rates across Chicago Public Schools. As a result of these findings, the P.L.A.Y.S. Program was developed in order to help combat these issues. P.L.A.Y.S. is primarily located in Chicago’s south and west side neighborhoods. Students living in these under resourced communities are continually faced with threats of violence, crime and drug use, among many other social barriers. P.L.A.Y.S. specifically addresses these challenges by delivering safe, active, and educational programming that provides students with the fundamental skills they need for future success.
