Fall 2013 TV Preview: The Hottest New Network Shows

tv-fall-2013-preview-the-crazy-onesIt’s that time of year again—the season of football, pumpkin spice lattes and brand new TV shows.

This fall, some big names return to the small screen, and viewers have multiple choices when it comes to comedy. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of drama-filled programs. Here are six network shows to consider adding to your evening schedule.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Premieres Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. on FOX

Fans of Parks and Recreation, rejoice! Writers/producers Dan Goor and Michael Schur bring a new comedy that centers around Detective Jake Peralta, who somehow has the best arrest record in the precinct despite his lack of discipline and inability to grow up. Jake’s colleagues aren’t much better, and there’s a new captain in town who’s looking to turn this group into the best in the city. Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews and Joe Lo Truglio.

Hostages
Premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on CBS

Imagine being one of the best surgeons in the country and being chosen to operate on the president of the United States. Then imagine that your family is held hostage by a rouge FBI agent who wants the president assassinated during surgery. That’s the situation Dr. Ellen Sanders faces in this thriller, the latest show to explore the idea that not everything is black and white. Executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s Hostages stars Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Premieres Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. on ABC

Marvel’s first TV series follows Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, the same actor who starred as the character in Marvel’s recent movies. Coulson gathers the best agents for S.H.I.E.L.D., the global law-enforcement organization. Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is one of the show’s executive producers, so fans of the films can be sure the show is in good hands.

The Michael J. Fox Show
Premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. on NBC

Alex P. Keaton, I mean Michael J. Fox, is back on TV. Fox plays Mike Henry, a husband and father who quit his news anchor job after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Years later, his family is ready for him to get out of the house and return to work. This comedy debuts with a special one-hour episode.

The Crazy Ones
Premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS

Simon and Sydney Roberts, a father-daughter duo, run a prominent ad agency in Chicago. Sydney is young, driven and takes her job very seriously. Her father is the exact opposite. After all, he is played by Robin Williams. The show revolves around this relationship, but also takes a look at the crazy world of advertising. We’ll just have to see how accurately the show portrays the Windy City. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars alongside Williams, and Kelly Clarkson guest stars in the pilot.

Betrayal
Premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC

What would fall TV be without another show about sex, love and loyalty? ABC’s latest, Betrayal, follows Sara and Jack, who are in love and married, just, as you probably guessed, not to each other. Things get even more complicated when Sara’s husband, Drew, is named the prosecuting attorney in a high-profile murder case that will pit him against Jack, a lawyer on the other side. Betrayal takes place in Chicago and stars Hannah Ware, Stuart Townsend, Chris Johnson and James Cromwell.

What shows are you most looking forward to this fall?
