Moms and Kids Grant Holiday Wishes

With the holidays just around the corner, our thoughts naturally turn to the joy of giving and receiving gifts.

The Mom ‘n’ Kids Caring Club has embraced the holiday spirit by participating in a very important gift drive. A group of multicultural moms and children from the North Shore and surrounding suburbs, the club participates in community service projects to help their children develop responsibility and empathy for others, while practicing tolerance and learning valuable life skills.

Once again, the group has chosen to work with Glenkirk, a local agency that provides residential, vocational and day program services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Each year, Glenkirk holds its Lucy Coward Holiday Gift Drive, a project that ensures that every one of Glenkirk’s consumers receives a gift to unwrap and enjoy during the holiday season.

To help make this gift drive a success, The Mom ‘n’ Kids Caring Club has set up 2 “Giving Trees” at the Glen Town Center in Glenview; one at The Book Market, 2651 Navy Blvd., and one at Mathnasium, 2651 Valor Court. The club crafted hand-made pinecone ornaments upon which a Glenkirk consumer’s gift “wish list” is placed. People are then asked to pick an ornament, purchase a $25 gift from the individual’s list, and then return the present unwrapped to one of the “Giving Tree” sites.

There are also colored stockings on the tree with requests for $5 stocking stuffers. Gifts and stocking stuffers are due back no later than December 9th, at which time the moms and kids will wrap them and deliver them to Glenkirk.
