Project Pink to Make Strides at Old Orchard Oct. 21

Project Pink, a noncompetitve 5K walk, will take over Westfield Old Orchard shopping center at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Project Pink is one of more than 250 nationwide events that aim to show support for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

Project Pink expresses hope and celebrates breast cancer survivorship, says Shannon Ridgeway, marketing director for Westfield Old Orchard. “It’s an energetic occasion with a DJ getting the crowd dancing before the walk–and it’s quite a crowd. Last year we had 800 people.”

The walk begins and ends in the west parking lot across from Macy’s and continues in and around the center. Registration opens at 8 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m., and the walk at 9 a.m.

“People can stay and shop after the walk,” Ridgeway says. “Participating retailers featuring pink merchandise and donate a portion of the sales to breast cancer.”

There is no registration or fundraising requirement for Making Strides, but participants are welcome to raise money online or collect donations to turn in on the day of the event. For more information and to sign up for Project Pink, visit makingstrides.acsevents.org.
