Quick and Easy: 33rd National Veterans Wheelchair Games

Help a disabled vet compete this summer when you support Evanston American Legion Post 42’s efforts to cover travel expenses for those competing at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Tampa, Florida.

What: Donations help send a multi-sport team of wheelchair-bound area veterans, including many getting care at the North Chicago Lovell Federal Health Care Center, to the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Tampa.

Where: The Tampa Convention Center and St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.

When: The Wheelchair Games run from July 13-18.

The organization: Co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America since 1985, The Wheelchair Games draws in 500 athletes annually. Events include archery, basketball, bowling, field events, hand-cycling, a motorized wheelchair rally, nine-ball, power soccer, quad rugby, slalom, softball, swimming, table tennis, track, trapshooting and weightlifting.  Athletes compete against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age, allowing them to realize their abilities and potential while enjoying the benefits of physical exercise and camaraderie.

The American Legion, chartered by Congress in 1919, is a nonpartisan, worldwide community service organization made up of more than 3 million men and women that serve wartime veterans and their needs.
