Please share your mission.

Our mission is to get every student reading at or above grade level within the first years of school through the power and discipline of the arts, especially students in greater need of support.

Describe how your organization lives/realizes its mission.

To achieve our mission, teachers must have the training, tools, and support they need to become better reading instructors: – Training begins with a two-day intensive Summer Institute, at which teachers learn how to deliver the Benchmarks program with fidelity. Additional training outside of the classroom is provided in November to extend teachers’ professional development during the school year for a total of 23 hours of training per teacher. – Tools include a research-based and professionally produced Teacher’s Manual for each grade level containing daily lesson plans in English and Spanish. Original songs and drama scripts written by our staff are provided to build student brain connections, their level of engagement in reading, and excitement about reading and fluency. Teachers also receive high-quality books for their students to read and materials that stimulate students visually and tactilely. All of this and more are now available for member teachers on our digital platform at www.My.ReadingInMotion.org. – Support is provided face-to-face by our coaches every two weeks throughout the academic year. The coaches help evaluate students’ reading data, adjust student instruction, model best practices, and provide a wealth of constructive feedback. This support is provided in the classroom for the first year for teachers new to us. After the first year, they either become Peer Coaches or they continue to use our coaching services every other week.
