Student Alliance for Homeless Youth to Hold Annual Candlelight Vigil Nov. 13

Student Alliance for Homeless Youth's Candlelight Vigil

The annual Student Alliance for Homeless Youth Candlelight Vigil will be held Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. at Clarkson Park (1950 Willow Road, Northfield). SAHY’s mission is to build awareness of youth homelessness, help reduce educational barriers and provide services to the homeless. The group is made up of students from New Trier, Maine South, North Shore Country Day, Loyola Academy, Lake Forest Academy and more local schools.

This candlelight vigil will occur during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. This past school year, 18,831 Chicago Public Schools students were homeless. During the vigil, Chicago Hopes for Kids Founder Patricia Rivera will talk about the educational challenges homeless students face.

Those who attend the vigil are also asked to bring gloves or hats to donate to children and teens.
