Summer Fashion Trends

We’re packing away our sweaters, coats and tights—summer is here at last!

With the days finally heating up, our Resident Stylephiles Jeannine Benoit of Second City Style and NBC’s “Nonstop Scene Chicago” and Dhana Cohen of The Next Big Zing share more of their favorite warm weather trends.

If there’s one overarching theme to the best summery styles, it’s a breezy chicness—nothing too fussy, busy or overdone. Clean lines, a swath of color and a hint of bling are all you need to look effortlessly cool.

Paper Whites
Benoit loves the versatility of the little white dress. “Some people get nervous about all white, but there are ways to make it work for you—add a wedge, belt, and a navy cardigan.” This frock (pictured above, right) from BB Dakota, one of Benoit’s favorite brands, can be worn as a dress or a skirt.

Cohen, meanwhile, classifies herself as “definitely a pants person.” For an easy but crisp summer look she opts for white denim paired with an interesting tank.

Platform Pretties

To brighten up a white dress or simple jeans and tank look, Benoit suggests wedges with a pop of color.

Benoit plans to live in these platform pumps this summer. “You can wear them with everything you own—denim, a bright dress or a white dress.”

Cohen looks for unique statement jewelry, and her site often features lines from independent artists and designers. She recommends mixing and matching pieces to create a distinctive look that reflects your personality.

One of Benoit’s wardrobe staples is the classic braided belt, which she wears with both jeans and dresses.

Denim Flare
Both Cohen and Benoit love the current ‘70s influenced styles, particularly high-waisted, wide leg denim. They advise pairing this jean with a simple tank and wedges, then layering on statement jewelry for a look that’s downtown swank.
