Summer Fun With the Chicago Sky

The Chicago Sky is a professional women’s basketball team and is part of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The WNBA is the longest running female professional sports league in the world. Founded in 2005, the Chicago Sky became the first independently owned WNBA team in the country. Principal Owner Michael Alter is a Chicago native and president of the Alter Group, one of the country’s largest private commercial real estate development companies. Alter is also the founder and president of City Year Chicago.

As one of six teams that compete in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference, the Chicago Sky play their home games at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The regular season runs from May to September, with the playoffs concluding by the end of September.

The Sky clinched the first playoff berth in team history on Aug. 23, 2013, and has since made four consecutive playoff appearances including its WNBA Finals debut on Sept. 3, 2014. The Sky’s roster features some of the WNBA’s top talent including back-to-back Sixth Woman of the Year Allie Quigley, WNBA All-Star and two-time NCAA champion Stefanie Dolson, and seven-time All-Star Cappie Pondexter. In addition to the team’s top tier athletes, Amber Stocks joins the team this season as first-time head coach and general manager.

The franchise is committed to inspiring future generations by showing the world what’s possible. The Sky’s mission, showcased through some of the best female athletes in the world, is to deliver best-in-class, affordable family entertainment through positive role models who lead both on and off the basketball court while passionately giving back to the Chicagoland community.
