Better Makers: UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Awards Luncheon Raises More Than $100,000

UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Awards Luncheon 2016

On Sept. 23, guests gathered at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago for the UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Awards Luncheon as the organization celebrates 70 years of working to put all children, no matter where they live, first. This year’s Chicago Humanitarian Award Recipients were Dr. Gary Slutkin, Thomas and Diane Geraghty and Zainab Zeb Khan.

Gary Slutkin is the founder and CEO of Cure Violence and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The mission of Cure Violence is to reduce violence around the world by using disease control and behavior change methods. Thomas Geraghty is the director of the Bluhm Legal Clinic at Northwestern University and Diane Geraghty developed and directs the Civitas ChildLaw Center at Loyola University. Both have served as UNICEF consultants in Africa and Asia. Zainab Zeb Kahn received the first UNICEF Next Generation Chicago Humanitarian Award for her work as a visual artist, therapist and global human rights advocate, in addition to her work as president of the Muslim American Leadership Alliance.

The luncheon co-chairs were Ilyce Glink Tamkin and Hilary Scott.
