Jameson Humane, a Napa Valley-based nonprofit that finds homes for displaced companion and farm animals, plus operates an extensive animal sanctuary, raised a staggering 1.4 million dollars at its signature fundraising event, Wineapawlooza 2021. Combining two things that are universally loved — wine and animals — Wineapawlooza has emerged as one of the top 10 wine events in the country, according to Wine Spectator magazine.
The fast-paced virtual event on June 19 featured rare, handcrafted wines from 50 of the “who’s who” of Napa Valley wine glitterati. A live, interactive auction included 15 lots, highlighting one-of-a-kind experiences and wines from cult brands Scarecrow, Screaming Eagle, Opus One, Silver Oak, and Bevan Cellars, plus weekend wine extravaganzas. The featured lots also included exclusive dinners cooked by celebrity chefs such as San Francisco’s Michelin Star Chef Dominique Crenn; and socialization experiences with famed athletes who love wine and animals, such as retired MLB player Nomar Garciaparra, Olympic gold medalist Mia Hamm, and Logan Ryan of the New York Giants.
Produced by Jason and Christina Wise from SOMM TV and held at Nine Suns, the live event and auction was hosted by Wine Access’ Master of Wine Vanessa Conlin, world-renowned wine auctioneer Fritz Hatton, and Jameson Humane founders Monica and David Stevens. Preceding the event, Amanda McCrossin of SommVivant interviewed a collection of prestigious vintners to vividly illuminate where wine and animal welfare intersect each other.
$300,000 of the total raised went to Jameson Humane’s programs to improve the state of animal welfare and save animal lives, especially in times of disaster including the wildfires that have plagued California during the past few years. Jameson Humane partners with Napa, Sonoma, and Solano Community Animal Response Team’s (CART’s) and Community Emergency Response Team’s (CERT’s) to help animals when they need it the most, especially during life-threatening fires.
