11 Must-See Summer Movies

11 Must-See Summer Movies

Who doesn’t love summer movie season? This year’s crop of must-see summer movies looks action-packed, giggle-inducing and, in some cases, heart-breaking. We’ve picked 11 features that will be must-sees in theaters this summer.

Me Before You (June 3)

Jojo Moyes‘ enthralling novel that is part love story, part tragedy is hitting the big screen with “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke and “Hunger Games'” Sam Claflin in the lead roles of Louisa Clark and Will Traynor. If the movie lives up to the novel, bring tissues with you to the theater.

Now You See Me 2 (June 10)

2013’s “Now You See Me” was an underrated, magical romp. Lizzy Caplan has replaced Isla Fisher this go-round, but the rest of the original star-studded cast is back along with a few other newbies. The magicians are blackmailed into another daring heist and you wonder what sleight of hand they will use to get out of it this time.

Finding Dory (June 17)

One of the most lovable characters in movie history is back with her own sequel. It may be hard to believe, but “Finding Nemo” was released 16 years ago. “Finding Dory” stresses the importance of home and family, and what a great message that is.

Central Intelligence (June 17)

Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we think “Central Intelligence” looks like a pretty funny action, buddy comedy minus the tired CGI high school fat kid scenes.

Independence Day: Resurgence (June 24)

It is the summer of long-awaited sequels. Almost 20 years to the exact date of release, here comes “Independence Day: Resurgence.” Will Smith isn’t here, but Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are. Is the Earth ready for another attack? By the looks of the trailer, no. But here’s hoping.

The BFG (July 1)

Steven Spielberg is at the helm of this childhood favorite from Roald Dahl, and it looks like it will be a fantastical journey full of imagination and wonderment.

Secret Life of Pets (July 8)

What do your pets get up to when you’re not at home? It looks like a whole lot of hilarity. “Secret Life of Pets” looks like a movie the whole family could enjoy.

Ghostbusters (July 22)

This could be a great remake or an utter travesty. We’re hoping it’s the former since we love the four leading ladies and are ready for a laugh.

Jason Bourne (July 29)

Matt Damon is back. That’s all you need to know, right?

Suicide Squad (Aug. 5)

A bunch of bad guys team up to be a bunch of good-bad guys. We’re most excited for Margot Robbie‘s portrayal of Harley Quinn. We’re also wondering if Jared Leto is going to live up to Heath Ledger‘s legacy as the Joker.

Southside With You (Aug. 26)

Touching, funny and witty, that’s how “Southside With You” is showing the story of Michelle and Barack Obama‘s first date. It’s how we’d like to imagine the President and the First Lady in their younger years.
