On Friday, Nov. 13 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, more than 370 guests gathered together for Children’s Oncology Services and One Step Programs‘ annual FLIGHT gala. The Argentinian theme of the evening included a cocktail reception, dinner, a seated program that “highlighted the joys of One Step Programs and the families it helps,” and music by Michael Lerich and his orchestra to wrap up the night.
Juan Escobedo and Amber Pflughoet both shared stories about the impact this organization has had on their fights with cancer as well as the amazing experiences they have been able to have at camp, which moved guests to give them both a standing ovation. This year’s Richard Schwebel Memorial Award was given to the Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities and the Billy Pierce Family for their dedication and work toward battling pediatric cancer. Through both live and silent auctions and a ‘Campership auction,’ the event was able to raise more that $225,000, enough to send 225 children with cancer to camp this year.
