Gucci Gives Back

Started in Florence in 1921, this venerable brand is now led by Creative Director Frida Giannini, who combines the heritage of luxury craftsmanship with a modern design and flair.

She has worked with Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna to raise funds for UNICEF.

“This year’s ‘Gucci for UNICEF’ campaign will help to provide thousands of children in Malawi, Mozambique and China with access to a quality education through UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ and ‘Schools for Asia’ initiatives,” says Leila Pakkala, director of UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division. “For most children in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia, education represents the only way out of a life of entrenched poverty. We are grateful to Gucci for their ongoing commitment to UNICEF and their support in building a brighter future for these children.

Since the Gucci partnership with UNICEF began in 2005, Gucci has donated more than $13 million to support UNICEF’s HIV/AIDS and education initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.

This year, Gucci has introduced a special edition “Gucci for UNICEF” Boston bag, designed by Giannini, and will donate 25 percent of the retail price of each bag to support UNICEF’s “Schools for Africa” and “Schools for Asia” initiatives.

Beyond purses, Gucci also has the GG Flag collection of t-shirts and accessories, which were designed by Giannini, and benefit UNICEF.

While headquartered in Italy, Gucci has a notable Chicago presence including a flagship store on Michigan Avenue.
