Denim is always in fashion, but many women are walking around wearing the wrong style jeans for their body type.
Find your perfect pair just in time for fall!
Boyish/Slim Figure
If you have a thin frame, you can get away with wearing many styles of jeans. Look for a waistband that runs straight across the middle. To create curves, choose jeans with detailed back pockets. While you can definitely wear skinny jeans, flare or wide-leg jeans will create more shape. Avoid slouchy boyfriend jeans; they’ll add unnecessary bulk and do nothing for your figure.
Try: J Brand “10″ Ankle Skinny” and Rag and Bone “Slim Fit Zipper”
Curvy Figure/Larger Bottom
Look for jeans with room through the thigh and a higher rise in the back. If you’re curvy and prefer a straight leg, try a slim cut, but not tapered. Go for darker denim and avoid small pockets and fading in the thigh area.
Try: AG Jeans, which have angled pockets that give the illusion of a smaller, shapelier behind. Joe’s Jeans “The Honey” (a favorite of Beyonce),J Brand “General” (a favorite of Kim Kardashian), Hudson “Gwen” andJames “Hunter” are also great options.
Apple-Shaped
If you’re apple-shaped, look for jeans with a higher waistband and rise. You can avoid a muffin top by purchasing jeans that have ample room in the waist and thigh. You want the waistband to come just above your belly button. Avoid stretchy jeans with a lot of elastic, and instead opt for a stiffer fabric (like jeans that are 99 percent cotton).
Try: J Brand “Maria” or Levi’s “Mid-Rise Skinny”
Tall
Tall girls need jeans with extra length. Diesel makes jeans that go up to a 34-inch inseam. According to E Street Denim manager Lindsey Conkel, “Jeans with slimmer legs are being shown in shorter lengths as to show off short boots and fun socks. Tall girls can wear regular length jeans and still be right on trend.”
If you still want an extra long jean, try: Gap “Long and Lean,” 7 For All Mankind “Kimmie,” or Old Navy “The Dreamer Boot Cut”
All-around jean that works for most body types
“Henry and Belle was founded in Highland Park, and is now a national brand that we love,” Conkel says. “The silhouettes fit and flatter a number of different body types because of their fabric technology.”
Right now is the perfect time to try out a new style. “You can be on trend in just about any silhouette, from an ankle skinny to a high-rise trouser,” Conkel says. “We are seeing lots of wax-coated and leather-look denim, as well as prints, textures and colors all the way through summer ‘14.”
Many of the brands listed can be found at E Street Denim, Nordstrom, Shopbop and Zappos.
