Your curfew isn’t the only one your teen needs to obey. If your 16- or 17-year-old has been enjoying the summer lifestyle – staying out late at the pool, the movies or wherever – be advised to remind him or her about local driving curfews.
If a teen gets caught driving in the wee hours, it could mean license suspension – which means you might end up playing chauffeur again.
Here’s what Illinois law has to say about nighttime driving for Graduated Drivers License (GDL) holders:
Drivers under age 18 may not operate a motor vehicle between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Friday and Saturday.
Exemptions in the law allow new drivers to drive to and from employment or school-sanctioned activities outside the restriction time.
Underage drivers convicted of violating the new driving curfews may have their driver’s license suspended.

Friday-Saturday: 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m.

Under the age of 17:

Friday-Saturday: 11 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Glencoe
Under the age of 17:
Sunday-Thursday: 11 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Friday-Saturday: 12 a.m. – 6 a.m.
