Job Responsibilities

As Shop For Good Manager/Editor and Philanthropy Editor, you will work closely with the Editor in Chief, Digital Editor and Publisher.

Shop For Good is Make It Better’s e-commerce website dedicated to supporting outstanding local businesses and nonprofits. The ideal candidate for the Shop For Good Manager/Editor will possess a sophisticated and innovative awareness of the fashion and retail landscape, and will excel at identifying integrative editorial and retail opportunities that will maximize Shop For Good’s reach and benefits to participating businesses and nonprofits. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and contracting new vendors to participate in Shop For Good
  • After contracts are signed, relationship management of client vendors to administer their products on the site
  • Photograph items for listing in shop
  • Quality control review of shop, descriptions and search optimization
  • Track shop analytics and specific metrics and report monthly to executive team
  • Work with sales team to update Shop For Good sell sheets.
  • Write, direct, execute shop editorial and video
  • Coordinate with Social Media Manager to promote new vendors and the shop
  • Coordinate monthly with Social Media Manager and our not-for-profit recipient (“NFP”) to arrange for Best Practices social media instruction for “how to” push out the shop in order to raise awareness for their participation in Shop For Good
  • Vet the NFP recipients and invest in their success by keeping close contact and ensuring that the NFP is promoting participation in the shop, thus help them raise more money
  • Work with internal development team on any fixes, additions or otherwise required for the shop
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships
  • Identify and grow opportunities within territory and collaborate with sales teams to ensure growth attainment

The Philanthropy Editor role entails a wide range of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Identifying and writing about philanthropic best practices
  • Fact checking
  • Facilitating components of media sponsorships
  • Meeting production deadlines for weekly e-newsletters and bi-monthly print publication
  • Utilizing SEO best practices focused on improving site traffic and social media growth
  • Generating online and social media content around Philanthropy and Shop for Good articles
  • Curating event photos and information to create compelling online and print content
  • Assist with online production (uploading and publishing content to site, editing/finding images)
  • Contribute to Philanthropy content (fielding/contributing ideas, writing and assigning articles)
  • Ensure all media sponsorship contracts are carried out properly
  • Occasionally contribute to Make It Better photography as needed
  • Contribute to social media, as directed by publishing best practices, working closely with Social Media Manager

Requirements:

  • Keen sense of style and awareness of retail trends
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to learn
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Solid grasp on grammar and familiarity with AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style
  • Positive attitude and a team-player attitude

Preferred:

  • Digital media experience
  • CMS and photo editing experience
