6 Chicago Retail and Beauty Hotspots That Will Make You Feel Like a VIP

You don’t have to venture far in Chicago to find some of the hippest destinations for beauty, fashion and design. Whether you’re seeking a last-minute blowout or are in need of a new date-night outfit, check out one of these fab new spots.

Restoration Hardware

Want to know where the city’s trend-setters are hanging out? Restoration Hardware. Seriously. If you haven’t caught wind of the news yet, the new Restoration Hardware has moved from North Avenue to Dearborn at the former Three Arts Club building. Referred to as “the most extravagant-looking retail project in Chicago history” and located in one of Chicago’s historic buildings, expect 62,000 square feet of jaw-dropping furniture and lighting, showcased in model rooms that give the Merchandise Mart a run for its money. One floor is allocated to children’s and teen furnishings, another showcases the modern line complete with a contemporary art collection, and don’t miss the rooftop conservatory with spectacular views of the city. At the center of the ground floor is the store’s restaurant, The RH Chicago Three Arts Club Cafe, helmed by one of Chicago’s favorite restaurateurs, Brendan Sodikoff (whose restaurant group is behind Au Cheval, Gilt Bar and Bavette’s Bar and Boeuf). Here, you can order a Bellini and the signature burger or decadent truffle grilled cheese. (Hint: Arrive right when they open to avoid a marathon wait time). Before heading out, don’t forget to grab a latté and a donut made by Chicago favorite Doughnut Vault, available at the Restoration Hardware coffee bar. 1300 N. Dearborn St., Chicago

Felt

Located in charming Logan Square, this new cutting-edge boutique carries clothing by contemporary designers like Anine Bing, IRO, Etienne Marcel and Timo Weiland, along with striking accessories and vintage pieces. In addition to the variety of styles, you’ll fall in love with Felt because of the warm and welcoming owners, Catherine Dunton and Holly Grannan, who met while they were living in Los Angeles. Dunton was working at popular boutique Satine and Grannan was one of Dunton’s customers. Over the next two years, a client relationship developed into a business partnership and Felt was born. The boutique also hosts fun, girly events like trunk shows and manicure night — just another incentive to shop at this gem. 2317 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago

Mud

Sometimes you need a good facial to rid your skin of bacteria and blackheads, but of course, what woman isn’t short on time? At Mud, you’ll receive a facial by a trained and licensed esthetician using vegan, organic products and leave glowing in just 30 minutes. The space is bright and airy, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. There are no private rooms, no robes, and your facial chair could be right next to your friend. Pop in when it’s convenient or book your appointment online. Choose from an array of facials including the much-buzzed-about breast milk facial! Facials start at $50 with a menu of $10 upgrades. 676 N. LaSalle St., Chicago

Scratch Goods

Longtime friends Maureen McClure and Elizabeth Leipold began making their own soaps and scrubs out of their homes and selling them locally at farmers’ markets. There was such great demand for their products that both women decided to open their first brick-and-mortar shop, where you can stop in for a treatment or shop an array of holistic, consciously-sourced skincare products. For a treatment like a facial or foot soak, you’ll consult with a Scratch Goods pro who will help you customize the elements of your scrub, masque or soak (the lavender mint foot soak smells good enough to eat). This is especially nice for those who have sensitive skin or a skin condition, as no parabens, chemical detergents, synthetic fragrances or dyes are used. Bonus: It’s nice to know that a percentage of all sales benefits schools in Africa. 3551 N. Damen Ave., Chicago

Goldplaited

While there are many blowout bars, there are none that offer a great blowout and makeup application all in one place — until Goldplaited open its doors. The bustling, gilded Lincoln Park salon marries blowout bar with makeup lounge. Clients love stopping in to try the latest hairstyle and many continuously request a service dubbed the “Kim K,” makeup and hair done simultaneously to let you truly feel like a VIP and get you out the door in under an hour ($80). Extras like lashes or airbrush foundation are also on the menu. Taking note from the current trends in LA and New York salons, Goldplaited sells a beauty membership where you can have your hair styled unlimited on weekdays. In addition to the services offered, beauty classes like “Curling 101” are offered on weekday evenings (prices start at $25). If you’re a large group celebrating a special occasion, you can hang in the private lounge, where you can chat or sip champagne in between treatments. Services start at $30. 2803 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago

Kit and Ace

When you hear that the wife and son of Lululemon’s founder have opened their own shop, you can’t help but be curious. While Lululemon is an active wear line, it’s also known for its fantastic quality. You can bet that Kit and Ace, a line of contemporary, machine-washable cashmere apparel, is also a cut above. The brand is intended to transition from casual to formal, and while it’s comfortable, you won’t sacrifice style. The foundational fabric of the company is called “Technical Cashmere,” and it’s intended to elevate the function of pure cashmere. Check out the line in person at their first Illinois store in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. 821 W. Fulton Market, Chicago
