Restoration Hardware
Want to know where the city’s trend-setters are hanging out? Restoration Hardware. Seriously. If you haven’t caught wind of the news yet, the new Restoration Hardware has moved from North Avenue to Dearborn at the former Three Arts Club building. Referred to as “the most extravagant-looking retail project in Chicago history” and located in one of Chicago’s historic buildings, expect 62,000 square feet of jaw-dropping furniture and lighting, showcased in model rooms that give the Merchandise Mart a run for its money. One floor is allocated to children’s and teen furnishings, another showcases the modern line complete with a contemporary art collection, and don’t miss the rooftop conservatory with spectacular views of the city. At the center of the ground floor is the store’s restaurant, The RH Chicago Three Arts Club Cafe, helmed by one of Chicago’s favorite restaurateurs, Brendan Sodikoff (whose restaurant group is behind Au Cheval, Gilt Bar and Bavette’s Bar and Boeuf). Here, you can order a Bellini and the signature burger or decadent truffle grilled cheese. (Hint: Arrive right when they open to avoid a marathon wait time). Felt
Located in charming Logan Square, this new cutting-edge boutique carries clothing by contemporary designers like Anine Bing, IRO, Etienne Marcel and Timo Weiland, along with striking accessories and vintage pieces. In addition to the variety of styles, you’ll fall in love with Felt because of the warm and welcoming owners, Catherine Dunton and Holly Grannan, who met while they were living in Los Angeles. Dunton was working at popular boutique Satine and Grannan was one of Dunton’s customers. Over the next two years, a client relationship developed into a business partnership and Felt was born. Mud
Sometimes you need a good facial to rid your skin of bacteria and blackheads, but of course, what woman isn’t short on time? At Mud, you’ll receive a facial by a trained and licensed esthetician using vegan, organic products and leave glowing in just 30 minutes. The space is bright and airy, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. There are no private rooms, no robes, and your facial chair could be right next to your friend. Scratch Goods
Longtime friends Maureen McClure and Elizabeth Leipold began making their own soaps and scrubs out of their homes and selling them locally at farmers’ markets. There was such great demand for their products that both women decided to open their first brick-and-mortar shop, where you can stop in for a treatment or shop an array of holistic, consciously-sourced skincare products. For a treatment like a facial or foot soak, you’ll consult with a Scratch Goods pro who will help you customize the elements of your scrub, masque or soak (the lavender mint foot soak smells good enough to eat). This is especially nice for those who have sensitive skin or a skin condition, as no parabens, chemical detergents, synthetic fragrances or dyes are used. Goldplaited
While there are many blowout bars, there are none that offer a great blowout and makeup application all in one place — until Goldplaited open its doors. The bustling, gilded Lincoln Park salon marries blowout bar with makeup lounge. Kit and Ace
When you hear that the wife and son of Lululemon’s founder have opened their own shop, you can’t help but be curious. While Lululemon is an active wear line, it’s also known for its fantastic quality. You can bet that Kit and Ace, a line of contemporary, machine-washable cashmere apparel, is also a cut above. The brand is intended to transition from casual to formal, and while it’s comfortable, you won’t sacrifice style. The foundational fabric of the company is called “Technical Cashmere,” and it’s intended to elevate the function of pure cashmere.
