Trend Report: 2016 Spring Fashion - Make It Better

This spring, don’t take fashion so seriously; the season’s hottest looks are all about fun. Many of the trends complement each other so don’t be afraid to pair a few in one outfit. Here are the styles you can look forward to wearing once sweater season is over.

Open Shoulders, Shoulder Cut-Outs and Off-the-Shoulder

Double up on your arm exercises — showing off your shoulders is right on trend this season. From the runway to the red carpet, open shoulders are appearing everywhere as a chic way for any woman, regardless of age, to show a little skin.

A New Take on the Oxford Shirt

These aren’t your everyday work shirts. The typically tailored oxford has been deconstructed for spring with shoulder cut-outs, oversized cuffs, puff sleeves, lacing and extra pockets. Wear the new classic with a shorter skirt, jeans or skinny trousers.

Ruffles

Showcase your feminine side with ruffled necklines, sleeves and skirts. One of spring’s biggest trends, spotted on the runways at Zimmerman, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu, ruffles don’t have to equal fancy. Try a colorful ruffled blouse over denim for a casual yet flirty look.

Pajamas as Daywear

Sadly, your favorite cozy T-shirt and hubby’s boxers don’t count. Think sexy, satin nightgown-like slip dresses or drapey silk pajama bottoms with a tucked-in top. Or, try a loose silk pajama top paired with jeans or leather pants. Add heels and accessories to take this trend from the sheets to the streets.

The ‘90s

’90s supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell never go out of style; apparently ’90s fashion doesn’t either. If you happened to hold onto one of those chokers you used to pair with babydoll dresses, it’s time to resurrect it. Backpacks, tie dye and high-top sneakers are all back too, and right on trend. Layer a slip dress over a tight long-sleeve tee or a spaghetti strap tank over a fitted tee or turtleneck for a ’90s look that was all over the spring 2016 runways at Dries Van Noten, MSGM and Emilio Pucci.

Low-Slung Trousers

Taking a cue from the ’90s trend, low-rise pants are again the rage and were seen on every runway. Wear them loose and on your hips. The relaxed look is cool yet comfortable.

Statement Earrings

Store your studs. THE accessory of the season? Eye-catching earrings. Long and even shoulder-grazing earrings in tassels, jewels, pom-poms and links make a simple outfit more interesting. Statement earrings look amazing with spring’s ubiquitous open-shouldered tops.
