To Market, To Market: Bringing the Fun of Vintage Shopping to the ‘Burbs

Shoppers, time to get busy. It’s summer and the area’s best markets are packed and waiting.

Tops on our list is the Randolph Street Market, which happens to be owned and founded by our favorite uber-shopper, Sally Schwartz.

“I look for unique items, vendors who can educate people on what they’re selling and people with a visually exciting set-up,” she says. And she confirms that it doesn’t hurt for a vendor to have an interesting personality. She’s quick to say “no” to people whose merchandise isn’t special enough.

Randolph Street Market is located in the 1350 block of West Randolph and is home to both the Chicago Antique Market and the Indie Designer Market, a kind of face-to-face Etsy, where trends and careers are born. If vintage jewelry, antiques, handmade accessories and clothing aren’t your thing, just go for the party—live music, street food and great people watching.

And for those who just can’t drag the double-stroller downtown, Schwartz has a brand new market in Highwood this summer.

“It’s back-to-back weekends with Randolph,” says Schwartz. “So lots of vendors do both weekends.”

One of those weekends is this weekend: June 26 and 27.
