Easy Chicago Daycation: A Local’s Guide to the West Loop

Daycation Around Chicago: West Loop (Sawada Coffee)

We asked three Chicagoland influencers to map out morning-to-night itineraries in the neighborhoods they call home: Evanston, the West Loop, and Hinsdale. Here, Second City Mom blogger Leyla Tran share her West Loop hit list.

Leyla’s Perfect Day

Start your day with coffee at The Allis, located in the Soho House Chicago. It’s a gorgeous old warehouse with so much character. Or, if you prefer tea, head to Sawada Coffee for the best matcha latte in town. Nothing makes me happier than sipping this drink while walking around the neighborhood.

Stroll over to the Fulton Market District, just a few blocks north of Randolph Street. This is Chicago’s former meatpacking district, and you’ll still see meatpacking trucks dotting the street. It’s a cool scene and a very trendy neighborhood full of brand-new galleries, shops, bars, and restaurants.

Have lunch with a side of art at Parlor Pizza. Chicago is known for its murals, and the West Loop is full of them. One of my favorites is the pizza wings mural at this restaurant — but if pizza’s not your thing, head to Federales for tacos. There’s an awesome wing mural there, too!

After lunch, shop till you drop at Randolph Street Market. This urban flea market is full of cool vintage merchandise and unique finds. Check it out July 28-29 or Aug. 25-26.

Hungry again? You’ve got options — there are so many amazing restaurants in the West Loop. My neighbors and I joke that our kids are all going to grow up to be foodies. Girl and the Goat and The Publican never disappoint, but if you’re craving something specific try Green Street Smoked Meats for barbecue, Monteverde for Italian, or Momotaro for Japanese and sushi.

After dinner, go to RM Champagne Salon for something sparkling. It’s hidden down a well-lit alley, but opens up to a beautiful courtyard that makes you feel like you’re somewhere in Europe.
