Daytripper: The Glory of Glenview

Everything old is new again with generations of family-run businesses, renovations that honor tradition and recreation facilities that celebrate the land.

Glenview House

With a menu focused on farm-fresh produce, more than 100 kinds of whiskey, and a selection of more than 100 beers, there is something for everyone at the newly renovated Glenview House. The decor gives an updated nod to the history of the oldest standing commercial building in Glenview, as does the expansive gallery of photos dating back to 1878. 1843 Glenview Road, 847-724-0692

Gallery Park

Walk, bike or jog into the solitude of nature when you hit the trails of Gallery Park, located just behind the Glenview Park Center. Circle the looped trails around the peaceful manmade lake and through naturalized prairies, meadows and wetlands. If the weather turns on you, step into the Park Center’s indoor track, where walls of windows overlook the lake and grounds. 2001 Patriot Blvd.

Creative House

For more than 45 years the family owned and operated Creative House has helped homeowners. Stop in and see seamstresses right on the premises, touch and browse the copious selection of fabrics and get decorating advice from design experts. 1226 Waukegan Road, 847-725-0370

Harrison’s Poultry

Truly a farm-to-table experience, Harrison’s Poultry receives fresh deliveries of free-range, all-natural poultry and eggs every day. Since 1893, this family owned and operated business has provided poultry and eggs to restaurants all over the North Shore. They also offer prepared kabobs, marinated wings and more. 1201 Waukegan Road, 847-724-0132
