Your Guide to Renting in Michigan

If you’re new to renting, where do you start? With a location, of course. We’ve picked a few prime spots within three hours of Chicago. Whether you like to spend your summer sunning, surfing, golfing or shopping – we’ve got you covered.

Golf
St. Joseph (St. Joe’s to the locals) is where it’s at. With the brand-new Jack Nicholas-designed course, The Golf Club at Harbor Shores, located in nearby Benton Harbor, you can’t go wrong.

Runner up: Grand Haven. The Grand Haven Golf Club has been ranked one of the top 50 public golf courses in the country by Golf Digest.

Wine
Park yourself in New Buffalo, where the Wine Trail starts. It’s the Napa Valley of the Midwest!

Runner up: The Three Oaks area, where the famed Tabor Hill Winery is located. Don’t miss dining in the Tabor Hill Restaurant with stunning views overlooking the vineyards.

Shopping
Downtown Holland, where Victorian architecture mixes with trendy boutiques, is known for its wide variety of shopping, and everyone’s favorite lunch spot, the New Holland Brewery.

Art
Saugatuck, with its galleries and tours, artist studios, art fairs, and many do-it-yourself art opportunities, has earned a reputation as the Art Coast of Michigan.

Antiquing
Locate yourself anywhere in Harbor Country, where many of the beach towns offer superb antiquing. Don’t miss Harbert, which has some of the best shops, and the Harbert Antique Mall, with 50 dealers.

Paddle Sports
South Haven offers superb kayaking and plentiful kayak rentals, and New Buffalo, home of Third Coast Surf Shop, can’t be beat. Rent a surfboard or take a lesson, and catch a wave!

Swimming and Beaches
Muskegon’s Pere Marquette Beach, stretching 2.5 miles, is one of the best beaches in the country and is ideal for families. If you’ve got teenagers, Grand Haven City Beach is the place to see and be seen. For young people, Grand Haven also offers some of Michigan’s best nightlife and entertainment.
