Interactive Art Museum ‘Color Factory’ Opens in Chicago’s Willis Tower

Color Factory Chicago is back and staying for good this time. On June 17, the museum is opening their doors and immersing Chicagoans in art and color that engage all the senses. The reopening will include 15 beautiful new installations and exciting artist partnerships across 25,000 square feet in the Willis Tower.

“We love Chicago and are thrilled to be opening our biggest museum to date in the heart of the city. We’re excited to share and celebrate the diversity, culture, and traditions of Chicago through these dynamic installations created in partnership with amazing artists. We can’t wait for guests to see, taste, touch, hear, and smell color in a whole new way!” said Tina Malhotra, CEO of Color Factory.

The opening of this new exhibit comes on the heels of a study that established only 4% of US museums actually focus on contemporary artists, as well as showing that museums in Chicago were notably less likely to take a chance on less-exhibited artists than museums in other cities.

Color Factory is breaking those barriers by partnering with both local and internationally-known artists and creatives. Artists in residence range include local artists like Edra Soto, and Akilah Townsend, who worked to develop an interactive Chicago color palette at the museum. International artist Camille Walala created an expansive maze inspired by the city’s architecture, while Yuri Suzuki’s experience plays with the connection between what we see and what we hear.

Additionally, Color Factory is partnering with well-known institutions from all around the city like the Museum of Contemporary Art, nonprofits like Chance the Rapper’s SocialWorks and 826CHI, and small businesses like Kurimu ice cream and Bon Femme.

Color Factory Chicago will be open Tuesday – Sunday from 9am-8pm. Tickets are available for purchase for $38 for General Admission, and $28 for Children (3-12).
